Soprano and Bay Area native Jennifer Mitchell completed her
Master’s in Vocal Performance at San José State University and graduated cum
laude from Wellesley College with degrees in Music and Italian. Most recently,
she sang the roles of Ida in Die Fledermaus at Lamplighters Music Theatre and
Gerda in the workshop of San José Repertory Theatre’s new musical adaptation of
The Snow Queen. Other recent performances include singing the roles of Annina
in La traviata with Livermore Valley Opera, the Novice in Suor Angelica with
Opera San José, and Chloé in Offenbach’s
Daphnis et Chloé and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, in addition to covering
the role of Susanna, with Opera Academy of California. She currently sings the
role of Lucy in The Billy Goat’s Gruff with Opera San José’s Educational
Outreach Program, and she regularly appears in the Opera San José Chorus. Other
performed roles include Drusilla (L’Incoronazione di Poppea), Isabella
(Rodriguez’s Suor Isabella), and First Spirit/Pamina cover (Die Zauberflöte)
with SJSU Opera Theatre.
Jennifer attended the prestigious AIMS in Graz program,
where she performed in a number of concerts open to the people of Graz and
participated in a master class with world-renowned coach Kathleen Kelly. Awards
include the Edwin Barlow Award at the 2012 SFBAC NATS Festival, and 2nd prize
in the 2011 San José Woman’s Club Scholarship Award Competition. Additionally,
Jennifer was a Regional Finalist for the 2012 NATS Artist Awards in Las Vegas.
Jennifer also loves musical theatre and has sung the roles
of Maria (West Side Story) and Anna (The King and I). Upcoming performances
include Kathy in Company at Los Altos Stage Company and Featured Ensemble in
Evita at Broadway by the Bay.
