Orchestra Recognized with Community Service Award

On Monday, April 20, 2009, the City of West Sacramento presented the West Sacramento Community Orchestra with an award for community service. Director Gordon Waters accepted the award on behalf of the all-volunteer organization. The award was made during the annual State of the City presentation.

"Showstopper" Event

Many thanks to the members of the West Sacramento Community Orchestra who were able to be present for a mini-concert on April 3, 2009, to help celebrate the City of West Sacramento's "groundbreaking" for the new community center. Big Band tunes from "Broadway Showstoppers" and "Salute to the Big Apple" provided a musical backdrop for the ceremony.

Orchestra Education

We've added a new resource section called "orchestra education" to help you learn more about the orchestra "experience." At the bottom of this page, you will find short, informative articles from Encyclopedia Britannica about composers and orchestras. We've also added a "search" function to look up those sometimes unfamiliar music terms (allegro, andante, forte, pianissimo) or you can search to learn more about unusual musical instruments (euphonium) or you can finally get a handle on Handel!

New Rehearsal Location

We are meeting at the NEW River City High School in West Sacramento, located on Jefferson Blvd., just past Higgins. Click here for a street map.

Drive past Higgins for about 200 feet. Make a left into the driveway. The Music Department is in the building to your right. Room 205.
